Now that Maged al-Maged is dead, speculations pour abundantly in a bid to peer out at the identity of the new leader of the Abdullah al-Azzam Brigades.
Abu Mohammad Toufic Taha, who has managed to stack 43 arrest warrants for perpetrating terrorist acts, is said to be a potential successor to Maged.
According to some, Taha, who reportedly keeps a low profile in the Tawarii neighborhood of Ain al-Hilweh camp, is unlikely to take the helm.
MTV news team headed to the Palestinian refugee camp where Taha is allegedly taking refuge along with other militants affiliated to the Fatah al-Islam and the Jund al-Sham group which is said to have become an offshoot of the Nusra Front and the Abdullah al-Azzam Brigades.
Al-Qaeda black flags are perceived everywhere amid the “mosaic fabric” that marks the Ain al-Hilweh camp. The fourty-member Haytham and Mohammad al-Shaaby group, the Bilal Bader group, the Oussama al-Shahabi group and the Fatah Movement are all deemed as key players inside the camp.
