An episode of a local, political satire program sparked anger among Hezbollah and AMAL Movement supporters after a skit showing an actor imitating the party’s Chief Hassan Nasrallah was aired Friday night.
Once the episode was wrapped up, the party’s loyalists took to the streets to protest what they considered as an outrageous and blatant breaching of both a political and religious taboo.
Dozens of angry protesters converged outside the Baalbek Serail, while the National News Agency also reported that a large number of men blocked the Sin el-Fil - Mirna al-Shalouhi Street with burning tires, chanting pro-Nasrallah slogans.
The episode had also sparked protest in Tripoli where a group of men converged at the Abou Ali roundabout, slamming the show for insulting religious figures.
These protests echoed a similar incident that took place back in June 2006 when the same satire program had also imitated Nasrallah.
