Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati affirmed on Tuesday that Lebanon was one of the countries that suffered the most from terrorist acts that struck many sectors and regions, “but they were resisted firmly by the army and security forces.”
“The country’s ever-watchful security was able to detect and foil many terrorist operations and arrest their perpetrators,” Mikati said, stressing that combating terrorism and addressing its causes and repercussions “is not only the responsibility of a specific security or intelligence apparatus, but rather requires collective cooperation, unification of expertise and information, and intensive coordination."
The Prime Minister’s words came in an address he gave to a symposium on "Coordination Mechanisms in Combating Terrorism" organized by the Lebanese government in cooperation with the "Advanced Counter-Terrorism Project for Lebanon's Security", which is funded by the European Union, with the participation of the countries supporting this project, namely Spain, France and Italy.
