His Eminence, the Most Reverend Elias Audi, Metropolitan of Beirut, appointed Dr. Marwan Michael Najjar as chief executive officer of SGHUMC (Saint George Hospital University Medical Center) effective June 16th, 2022.
Dr. Najjar comes to us with 31 years of successful professional career at Saudi Aramco medical services organization (SAMSO) and Johns Hopkins Aramco healthcare, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Najjar joined Saudi Aramco in June 1991 and was entrusted with numerous leadership and administrative positions, including chief of primary care, head of internal medicine, chief of rheumatology, Director (A) of Saudi Aramco medical technical support, Medical Director of SAMSO and Medical Director of Saudi Aramco Designated Facilities (MDF) which includes over 80 contracted medical facilities throughout the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In January 2012, Dr. Najjar became a member of the American College of physician’s Executives (ACPE) after graduating from the Executive Healthcare Leadership Program organized by ACPE, class 2010 – 2012.
Dr. Najjar successfully completed the Saudi Aramco Leadership Forum (SALF-48). He actively participates in all the acquired accreditations.
Dr. Najjar obtained his MD degree from the University of Saint Joseph, faculty of medicine in Beirut, Lebanon and completed his medical internship at Saint George University Medical Center from June 1981 until September 1982 after which he completed all his postgraduate training in the USA, in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts medical school in Worcester MA and at the University of medicine and dentistry of New Jersey in New Brunswick NJ. He then completed an advanced Fellowship training program in rheumatology and connective tissue diseases at the University of Tennessee in Memphis TN, home of the internationally recognized Campbell Orthopedic clinic.
Dr. Najjar is US Board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology being a Diplomat of the American Boards of internal medicine and rheumatology, a Fellow of the American College of rheumatology (FACR) and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
Dr. Najjar comes to SGHUMC with high credentials and extensive administrative and clinical experience from a long standing prestigious institution.
He started his tenure with SGHUMC in mid-June 2022 after ensuring a smooth transfer by working with the current CEO, Mr. Edgard Joujou through regular visits to Lebanon until then. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Joujou for his successful leadership over the last 5 years and for making the institution successfully recover after the August 4 port of Beirut blast, the country’s economic meltdown and for having SGHUMC play a leading role in the fight against COVID 19.
