President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, chaired a financial meeting on Wednesday, attended by Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh, Finance Minister Youssef El-Khalil, and former minister Salim Jreissati at Baabda Palace.
The meeting was devoted to tackle the financial situation and difficulties that Alvarez and Marsal company faced in forensic audit of the Central Bank accounts.
President Aoun insisted on starting forensic audit in the Central Bank accounts by Alvarez and Marsal and implementing the contract between the company and the Lebanese state, represented by the Finance Minister. The contract requires fully-handing the required data and documents, so that the audit company can start its tasks and issue an initial report in a maximum period of 12 weeks, according to the operative section of the contract.
For their part, Governor Salameh and Minister El-Khalil indicated that they are taking all necessary steps, and as quickly as possible, to achieve this purpose.
Finally, the President pointed out that the repercussions of failing to conduct the forensic audit will be negative at all levels, especially since the law provides undertaking this audit on all state administrations and institutions as well.
