President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met on Tuesday with the Health Minister, Dr. Firas Abiad, at Baabda Palace and tackled with him the health situation in Lebanon, the conditions of public and private hospitals, and the issues of medications, especially for those with chronic diseases.
After the meeting, Minister Abiad made the following statement:
"Today we visited His Excellency the President to brief him about the health situation, and the problems of the health sector in general.
We focused on two main topics, the first is the issue of medication and its availability for Lebanese citizens, especially medications for incurable diseases. In this regard, we confirmed that there is a policy of full subsidy for these medications, and we are securing them. These medications have begun to reach some hospitals and the Ministry's center in Karantina, and hopefully citizens will see good results soon.
The second topic that we discussed is the issue of hospitalization and the concerns of this sector in general, especially the issue of government and private hospitals. We asked His Excellency the President to support through some very important decisions so that this sector can continue its work.
President Aoun affirmed his full support, whether for the rights of hospitals or for the importance that Lebanese citizens obtain medications in a timely manner."
