Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Tuesday met at the Grand Serail with the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, David Beasley, in the presence of the United Nations Deputy Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Najat Rochdi, WFP Regional Director Corinne Fleischer and WFP Lebanon Country Director Abdallah Alwardat.
During the meeting, they discussed increasing the financial and food assistance provided by the Programme to the Lebanese people.
On emerging, Beasley described the meeting with PM Mikati as fruitful and excellent, during which they discussed the current economic situation and food security in Lebanon.
He added: "We now aspire to expand our assistance in Lebanon to reach about one million six hundred thousand people in the next few months, knowing that we are currently reaching about eight hundred thousand people, and the new aid will focus strictly on the most underprivilged groups."
Premier Mikati also met with French Ambassador to Lebanon, Anne Grillo, with whom he discussed the current general situation and the latest political developments in Lebanon and the broad region.
