French President Emmanuel Macron has intervened in the ongoing border crisis between Syria and Lebanon as heavy clashes continue between the newly formed Syrian security forces and Lebanese tribes spread across both sides of the border. Meanwhile, Israeli forces advanced into a village in rural Quneitra, destroying a former regime military outpost in southern Syria.
Amid warnings that the violent confrontations at multiple border points could escalate into a broader crisis affecting both Beirut and Damascus in the coming weeks, Macron offered France’s assistance in stabilizing the Syrian-Lebanese border. According to the Élysée, Macron—who invited Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa to visit Paris—reaffirmed France’s support for Lebanon in separate phone calls with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salameh following the formation of the new Lebanese government late Saturday night.
