In a statement on X, Free Patriotic Movement leader, MP Gebran Bassil, praised the heroism of southern Lebanon residents but condemned the sectarian tensions that erupted overnight.
Bassil emphasized that the provocation by certain groups chanting sectarian slogans undermined national unity and deepened divisions.
Bassil argued that extremism only fuels more extremism, with Lebanon ultimately paying the price.
"The actions of those stirring sectarian strife benefit the forces behind the division project," he said, calling for an end to divisive behavior for the sake of the country's stability.
