Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati held talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at the Spanish government headquarters in Madrid.
The meeting was attended by Lebanese Ambassador to Spain Hala Keyrouz, Spanish Ambassador to Lebanon Jesús Santos Aguado, and Prime Minister Mikati's advisor Ziad Mikati. Discussions reportedly covered bilateral relations and the current situation in Lebanon and the region.
For his part, Mikati expressed gratitude for Spain's steadfast support for Lebanon, highlighting its inclusion in Spain’s development cooperation priorities and the projects carried out by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The PM also commended the Spanish battalion's role within UNIFIL and praised its commander, Major General Aroldo Lázaro.
Mikati further reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to UN Resolution 1701 and urged Israel to uphold the ceasefire and withdraw from southern Lebanese towns, paving the way for full implementation of the resolution.
For his part, Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez reiterated Spain’s support for Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL to achieve lasting stability in southern Lebanon.
Sánchez also announced Spain's plans for additional support to the Lebanese Army and reaffirmed Lebanon's priority status in Spain's future development cooperation initiatives.
