National Defense Minister Maurice Sleem welcomed Italian Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, and his delegation in Yarzeh, in the presence of Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Fabrizio Marcelli.
Crosetto received military honors and laid a wreath at the Lebanese Army Martyrs' Monument before discussing bilateral relations and Lebanon's situation with Sleem.
The meeting highlighted military cooperation and the role of the Italian contingent within UNIFIL in southern Lebanon.
Crosetto briefed Sleem on Italy's efforts to mediate a ceasefire and reaffirmed Italy's commitment to supporting the Lebanese Army, including organizing conferences to enhance its capabilities.
Minister Sleem thanked Italy for its unwavering support and emphasized Lebanon's commitment to UNIFIL’s mission despite Israeli violations.
The Defense Minister reaffirmed the Army's cooperation with UNIFIL in maintaining security in the south and Lebanon's full adherence to UN Resolution 1701.
Sleem finally underscored the Army's central role in safeguarding stability amid ongoing challenges.
