French President Emanuel Macron contacted by phone each of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, with whom he discussed the ongoing situation in Lebanon, following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, as well as the broader political and security landscape.
For his part, Prime Minister Mikati expressed his gratitude to President Macron for his "steadfast commitment to Lebanon" and his crucial role in securing the halt of Israeli military actions.
During the conversation, Mikati emphasized the Lebanese Army’s ongoing operations in the southern regions, the Bekaa Valley, and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The PM also confirmed preparations to bolster the military presence in the South of the Litani area, with a view toward strengthening security.
Mikati also urged continued international pressure on Israel to halt its violations of the ceasefire agreement, which he noted had resulted in casualties and significant material damage earlier in the day.
The PM then underscored the importance of enforcing the ceasefire terms and ensuring peace and stability in Lebanon’s most vulnerable regions.
Speaker Berri also received a call from President Macron, during which the two leaders discussed Lebanon's recent efforts to uphold the ceasefire and the Israeli provocations that continue to complicate the security situation.
Additionally, Berri and Macron touched upon the preparations for Lebanon’s upcoming presidential elections, with Berri emphasizing the need for political stability in the face of ongoing regional tensions.
