Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants welcomed the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue two arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, and supervising attacks against the civilian population.
"This important judicial decision restores respect for international legitimacy and the concept of justice and international laws, especially international humanitarian law, and provides an umbrella of trust and safety for people around the world, with the presence of effective and credible international institutions and courts," the Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
"The International Criminal Court’s decision constitutes an essential step towards achieving justice, and a clear condemnation of the crimes committed by Israel against civilians," the statement added, stressing that the resolution also proves that the time of escaping accountbility and punishment for crimes has passed.
Finally, the Ministry's statement underlined "the necessity of the international community's commitment to the principles and path of international justice, to maintain international peace and security, and to respect human rights and international law."
