Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with UNICEF Representative in Lebanon Edouard Beigbeder at the Grand Serail, alongside Acting UNICEF Director.
Beigbeder, who is leaving his post, expressed gratitude for the Lebanese government's support over the years and introduced his successor. He highlighted the challenging situation in Lebanon, particularly for children, but emphasized UNICEF’s efforts to enroll more children in schools.
Moreover, Beigbeder stressed that education was the best way to return children to normalcy and learning and that UNICEF looked forward to continuing its work in Lebanon.
Additionally, Mikati met with Caretaker Minister of Economy Amin Salam who shared insights from his recent visit to the United States.
Salam discussed positive developments despite Lebanon’s ongoing challenges. He highlighted potential support from the new U.S. administration, especially in terms of economic and social assistance.
Salam also mentioned the focus on a ceasefire and Lebanon’s recovery, noting the importance of U.S. backing for Lebanon's economic and infrastructure projects.
The Economy Minister further reassured that Lebanon had sufficient resources for the coming months, despite concerns about potential blockades, calling such reports mere exaggerations to strengthen Israel’s negotiating position.
