Caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib voiced his concerns regarding an internal strife that might result from growing frictions between the Lebanese displaced and the residents of the areas to which they fled war at home.
Addressing the Union for the Mediterranean ministerial meeting in Barcelona, Bou Habib said: “We ask for your support and help to achieve a ceasefire, fully implement Resolution 1701 in a balanced way by both sides, and enhance our defensive capacities.”
Bou Habib also called for support “to return the displaced on both sides of the border, provide immediate humanitarian aid to 1.4 million Lebanese displaced, help reconstruct the devastated Lebanese regions, and offer assistance to the Syrian displaced inside Syria.”
