Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has renewed his presidential initiative, stating, "We reaffirm what we proposed on August 31st; the call for dialogue or consultation is still in place, followed by successive sessions to elect a President of the Republic."
He added, "Electing a president is a constitutional internal obligation that has nothing to do with Gaza or the war in the South, and we must seize the current moment to complete the constitutional requirement as quickly as possible."
On the anniversary of the disappearance of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his companions, Berri said, "We salute the martyrs, especially the blessed group of martyrs from The Amal Movement and the Islamic Scouts who defended Lebanon and its South."
He continued, "No compromise, no bargaining, no settlement except with the return of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his companions."
Berri also noted, "The genocide being perpetrated by the Israeli killing machine against the Palestinian people in the West Bank is no less dangerous than what is happening in Gaza."
He emphasized, "If Gaza falls as planned, this fall will be a resounding blow to the entire nation, paving the way for the division of the region into small states, with Israel being the strongest."
Regarding the Lebanese context, Berri stated, "We reaffirm our commitment to UN Resolution 1701, and the only party required to adhere to it is Israel, which has violated it more than 30,000 times by land, air, and sea."
He added, "We call on the government to move away from showy gestures and to provide the basic necessities for displaced Southerners."
