US President-elect Donald Trump launched a new attack on officials in the state of California, as firefighters continue to fight the raging fires in Los Angeles.
Trump wrote on his social network "Truth Social": "The fires are still burning in Los Angeles. The incompetent politicians have no idea how to put them out...This is one of the worst disasters in the history of our country. They just can't put it out. What happened to them?" he said, noting that "death is everywhere."
While it's too early to know the source of the fires, authorities have been criticized for their preparedness and response.
Firefighting tanks were empty in the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood, which was hit by one of five wildfires in the area, and water shortages have hampered efforts elsewhere.
Nicole Perry, whose home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed by fire, told AFP that authorities had "completely abandoned" the residents.
