The Wikipedia encyclopedia replaced the previous Syrian flag and emblem with the "Flag and Emblem of the Syrian Revolution."
The current flag consists of three colors: green, representing the Rashidun Caliphate; white, representing the Umayyad Caliphate; and black, symbolizing the Abbasid Caliphate. The red stars originally represented three regions in Syria: Aleppo, Damascus, and Deir ez-Zor.
This flag differs from the one used by the previous Syrian government under Bashar al-Assad, which adopted the flag of the United Arab Republic from 1980 until December 8, 2024. The former Syrian flag featured three parallel horizontal rectangles, colored red, white, and black from top to bottom. Inside the white rectangle were two green stars.
