Venezuela's attorney general said in a statement on Monday that 533 people arrested for taking part in post-election protests have been freed.

Venezuela's government said more than 2,000 people were arrested for taking part in protests in the aftermath of the contested July election, where President Nicolas Maduro was declared the victor by electoral authorities.

As of last week, the attorney general's office said some 328 people had been freed.

Rights groups like Foro Penal said they have not been able to verify all of the releases.
