Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zaspykin, voiced his country's support of the Baabda Declaration, deeming it as the basis of the Lebanese state.
During a ceremony in Beirut marking Russia's National Day, Zaspykin relayed his country's committment to Lebanon's stability and security, praising efforts exerted by Lebanese officials and authorities to curb any potential strife.
The Russian envoy also urged local factions to overcome their disputes and resume the national dialogue.
The diplomat added that his country aspired to a balanced international system based on pluralism and equality between all countries, in accordance with the UN Charter.
"In the Middle East, Russia pursues its efforts to find peaceful solutions to the problems of the region, away from outside interference. We reject will imposition and hegemony. We call for the fight against terrorism and extremism as an absolute priority," he said.
"In Syria, we are working for the cessation of the bloodshed. We believe in the necessity of political compromise over national dialogue, on the basis of the Geneva conference," he added.
