Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stressed that "Lebanon will not accept, under any circumstances and regardless of the extent of pressure, to give up any inch or iota of its land or soil, or any of its sovereign rights," adding that "Lebanon will resort to all available means to protect and preserve these rights and liberate the remaining lands under Israeli occupation."
Speaker Berri’s words came during his reception at the second presidency headquarters in Ain El Tineh, of a delegation from the newly elected administrative body of the Association For Specialization And Scientific Guidance.
Berri considered that preserving Lebanon means preserving the South, "which is a collective national responsibility and should be a point of consensus and unity, rather than a point of division.".
Berri added: “If we stand united, we can overcome any challenge that Lebanon may face. It is through unity that we have triumphed, while through division and fragmentation, Lebanon has suffered from hardships and dangers that have threatened its very existence. Today, more than ever, everyone is called upon to strengthen the atmospheres of unity and focus on themes that bring the Lebanese together, while avoiding what divides them.“
Berri also expressed hope for reaching a consensus on adopting a unified mechanism for administrative appointments based on the criteria of competence and integrity, stressing that reassurance and trust lie within Lebanon and in the hands of the Lebanese.
He also stressed that the current pace of work, whether in carrying out the appointments initiated by the government or in revitalizing the public administration, will inevitably lead Lebanon on the path to emerging from its crises.
On the issue of Syrian refugees, Berri said: "It is time for the international community, in light of the changes that have taken place in Syria, to address this issue as quickly as possible in a way that preserves Lebanon's stability and returns the refugees to their homeland, Syria."
The delegation briefed Speaker Berri on the Association’s work program for the next phase.
