The National Council for the Lebanese Flag issued the following statement:
"The National Council for the Lebanese Flag strongly condemns the blatant attack on the national symbol, represented by the raising of a defaced Lebanese flag in Martyrs' Square, in the heart of Beirut.
This act, which spread across social media, constitutes an insult to the values of the Lebanese state and a clear violation of the sanctity of the flag that unites the Lebanese people under its banner.
The Lebanese flag is not just a piece of cloth, but a symbol of the unity of the people and the sovereignty of the nation. Any action that disrespects or distorts it, under any pretext, is unacceptable. Attacking the flag is an attack on the authority of the state, and it is entirely rejected.
The National Council for the Lebanese Flag calls on the concerned authorities to launch an immediate investigation to uncover the circumstances of this disgraceful act and hold those responsible accountable, as it represents an assault on national identity. It also urges the Lebanese to express their demands in ways that preserve national symbols and enhance our unity instead of distorting them.
Lebanon will remain, and its flag will continue to fly high, as it always has, as a symbol of dignity and sovereignty."
