The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Qassem, spoke during the funeral of the former Secretaries-General, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, stating, "Today we bid farewell to an exceptional historical leader, a national Arab Islamic figure who represents the beacon of the free people in the world." He addressed Nasrallah, affirming, "You will forever remain with us through your path, your resistance, and your struggle; we will uphold the trust and continue on this path, and we will not abandon the option of resistance."
In a comment to Safieddine, Qassem expressed, "We miss you, Sayyed, and you will remain with us through your path and contributions." He also reached out to the Lebanese prisoners, declaring, "We will not abandon you nor leave you to the Zionists, and we will do everything in our power to secure your release."
Qassem reflected on the challenges faced, stating, "We faced the Israeli entity and America, who has been behind it; the level of resilience and perseverance was unprecedented, our heroic fighters stood firm on the borders, and 65,000 Israeli soldiers were unable to advance." He noted that the resistance has entered a new phase with different methods, highlighting, "The most significant position we have taken is to demand that the state assume its responsibilities after the resistance prevented the enemy from invading us."
Addressing the ceasefire, Qassem remarked, "We agreed to the enemy's request for a ceasefire because the resistance and Lebanon have no interest in continuing the disproportionate fight without any military or political progress, and our agreement to the ceasefire reflects our strength." He emphasized, "We are no longer facing a violation of the agreement, but rather an occupation; the resistance is present and strong in terms of numbers, resources, and people, and this is not the end."
Qassem asserted the enduring nature of the resistance: "The resistance is here to stay; we will act whenever we deem it appropriate, and we will not accept that the tyrannical American regime controls Lebanon." He also expressed a commitment to state-building, stating, "We will participate in building a strong state and contribute to its revival under the Taif Agreement; the state must undertake reconstruction, remove the enemy, and implement a rescue plan, and we are committed to state-building and national unity."
Lastly, Qassem reinforced the alliance with the Amal Movement, stating, "We are allied with the Amal Movement in a partnership forged in blood, so do not think you can 'play us against each other'; we are united in politics and choices."
