A video went viral of an 85-year-old woman who was detained in Saydnaya Prison and is possibly the oldest released detainee. She appeared visibly traumatized after her release, repeatedly pleading not to be abandoned.
This woman is among thousands of detainees who were held in Saydnaya Prison, located north of the Syrian capital. The prison stands as a stain on the history of the Assad family, who ruled Syria with an iron fist. Amnesty International has described it as a "human slaughterhouse" due to the scale of abuses that took place within its walls.
