Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri welcomed Ali Larijani, Senior Advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain El-Tineh. The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammad Reza Shibani, Special Representative of Iran’s Foreign Minister for Middle East and West Asia Affairs, alongside an accompanying delegation. Discussions focused on Lebanon's political and security challenges, regional developments, Israel's continued aggression, and the issue of displaced persons.
After the meeting, Larijani stated, "We are very pleased to be here in Lebanon and to meet with our brothers. During this visit, I also held discussions with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Speaker Nabih Berri. The Islamic Republic of Iran stands firmly with Lebanon’s government and people, especially during these trying times as Palestinians and Lebanese endure harsh conditions due to Israel’s ongoing crimes."
“We see it as our duty to assist the Lebanese people and government. We hope that, soon, conditions will improve, enabling displaced individuals to return to their homes and villages,” Larijani said as emphasizing Iran's commitment to supporting Lebanon.
In response to questions, Larijani clarified Iran's stance on multiple issues. On UN Resolution 1701, he affirmed support to any decision made by the Lebanese government or resistance.
Regarding the purpose of the visit and U.S. initiatives, Larijani said, "We are not here to undermine any initiative. Our goal is to resolve issues. Those destabilizing the situation are Netanyahu and his supporters. Distinguish between your friends and enemies."
On a message from Ayatollah Khamenei to Berri, Larijani said, “Yes, the message was delivered."
On allegations of Iran abandoning the resistance, Larijani dismissed such claims as baseless. “Who has been spreading these rumors? Hezbollah remains strong and prudent, and we will continue to support them under all circumstances,” he added.
Larijani concluded by expressing hope for a resolution to Lebanon's difficulties. “Speaker Berri provided valuable insights on implementing Resolution 1701,” he added.
