UN Peace Operations visits south Lebanon, meets injured UNIFIL peacekeepers

UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix visited south Lebanon to assess the situation in UNIFIL’s area of operations. He visited UNP 1-26 in Mansouri and UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura, where he spoke with peacekeepers injured in recent attacks and clashes. His visit included stops at:
- The observation post targeted by an IDF Merkava tank on October 10, 2024, injuring two Indonesian peacekeepers.
- The observation post where an unknown explosion injured two Sri Lankan peacekeepers on October 11.
- The Indonesian camp hit by a suspected Hezbollah Katyusha rocket on October 14, damaging a vehicle and accommodations.
- The heavy vehicle workshop struck by a likely Hezbollah rocket on October 29, injuring Austrian peacekeepers.
Lacroix also met with civilian peacekeepers and senior leadership at Naqoura, expressing gratitude to both military and civilian UNIFIL personnel for their dedication and commitment amidst ongoing challenges.
