Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Lebanese government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on external aid coordination and management efficiency. The ceremony took place this morning at the Grand Serail.
The MoU was signed by Cabinet Secretary-General, Judge Mahmoud Makkieh, and Dr. Abdallah Dardari, Regional Director of UNDP’s Arab States Bureau.
The agreement aims to establish a coordination hub to streamline Lebanon’s handling of foreign aid and improve crisis response.
Prime Minister Mikati met with Dardari ahead of the signing ceremony, joined by UNDP’s Resident Representative in Lebanon, Celine Moyroud, and an accompanying delegation.
Discussions centered on ongoing and upcoming UNDP projects in Lebanon.
Following the meeting, Dardari stated, “We were honored to meet with Prime Minister Mikati to discuss Lebanon’s situation and the UNDP’s support in enhancing the management of aid distribution and strengthening the capacities of national and local institutions. Our goal is to better equip these institutions to address displacement issues and to prepare for recovery and reconstruction when the time comes.”
“The agreement we signed is a crucial step in establishing a coordination center to improve aid management in Lebanon. This initiative will help harmonize sectoral policies—particularly in areas like industrial and agricultural development—while ensuring effective crisis management during these challenging times,” Dardari added.
Prime Minister Mikati also held discussions with Justice Minister Henri Khoury, with whom he reviewed general and ministerial matters.
In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Mikati, joined by Minister of Environment and Emergency Committee Coordinator Nasser Yassin, met with MPs Wael Bou Faour and Bilal Abdallah, along with Dalia Jumblatt.
MP Abdallah noted that the gathering focused on coordinating assistance for displaced persons in the Mount Lebanon area.
Mikati separately welcomed a delegation from the Strong Lebanon bloc, including MPs Nada Boustani, Nicolas Sehnaoui, and Ghassan Atallah.
Afterward, Boustani briefly commented, “The delegation delivered a message from bloc leader MP Gebran Bassil, aimed at preventing discord within the country.”
Prime Minister Mikati also welcomed Armenian Ambassador, Vahagn Atabekyan, where discussions addressed general issues and bilateral relations between Lebanon and Armenia.
