German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized, upon her arrival in Beirut, the need for a viable diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
"The priority now is working with our partners in the United States, Europe, and the Arab world to find a diplomatic solution that safeguards the legitimate security interests of both Israel and Lebanon," Baerbock said in a statement reported by Reuters.
She warned that Lebanon was "on the brink of collapse" amid Israel’s escalating military campaign targeting Hezbollah.
The German Minister also condemned any deliberate attacks on UN peacekeeping forces, calling them a violation of international humanitarian law.
"The commitment to protect UN peacekeeping forces applies to all parties involved in the conflict," Baerbock stressed, adding that "UNIFIL troops have our full support; they are essential for finding a political solution to the conflict."
