Search and rescue operations, along with comprehensive field surveys, continue at the site of the collapsed building in the Jamous area, which fell due to Israeli aggression. The latest toll reports that 45 martyrs have been retrieved from the site, while the number of injured stands at 66. Currently, 16 citizens are still missing.
On Friday afternoon around 3:45 pm, following the collapse of a residential building in the Jamous area of southern Beirut as a result of Israeli aggression, Civil Defense personnel immediately rushed to the scene, supported by firefighting and ambulance vehicles. Specialized search and rescue teams from various centers hurried to the site.
The comprehensive search and rescue operations have been closely monitored by the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, and supervised by the Director General of Civil Defense, Brigadier General Raymond Khattar. Since that moment, operations have not ceased, and lighting poles have been brought in to continue the search throughout the night in collaboration with other emergency and rescue organizations. A shift system has been implemented among the teams of the General Directorate of Civil Defense to ensure the timely execution of their assigned tasks.
Among the main challenges faced by the teams were the fires that broke out under the rubble in a car garage on the first underground level. The personnel made tremendous efforts to reach the source of the fire due to multiple layers of concrete, which caused smoke to spread and hindered search and rescue operations.
First aid was provided to eight injured individuals with minor injuries at the disaster site. Search and rescue operations, along with comprehensive field surveys, will continue at the site until all missing persons are found.
