The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement:
Within the framework of the Internal Security Forces' ongoing efforts to combat crime across various Lebanese regions, and following the circulation of a video on the media showing two unidentified individuals showing an armed man attempting to abduct an African girl in the Bourj Hammoud area after severely beating her, to flee later on on a motorcycle after the victim fell to the ground, the specialized units immediately began investigations to identify the suspect. The Intelligence Branch discovered that the armed individual who dismounted the motorcycle, assaulted the girl, and attempted to abduct her is identified as: S.A. (born in 1983, Lebanese). He has a criminal record for theft, robbery, and drug trafficking and is wanted by the judiciary.
On August 26, 2024, after a thorough follow-up, one of the branch's patrols spotted him in Bourj Hammoud. During the attempt to arrest him after announcing their official identity, he resisted, brandished his firearm, and attempted to shoot at the patrol. As a result, one of the officers fired at the suspect’s leg to restrain and control him. He was hit, arrested, and the firearm was confiscated. Upon searching him, a plastic container and two envelopes containing a white substance, believed to be cocaine, were found. He was taken to the hospital for necessary medical treatment.
On August 27, 2024, the detainee was released from the hospital and handed over with the seized items to the relevant authority, based on the instructions of the competent judiciary.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the second suspect involved.
