A forest fire has spread to residential areas in Izmir, Turkey's third-largest city by population, according to Turkish media.
Authorities have reported the evacuation of three neighborhoods in the Karşıyaka and Bayraklı districts, while 16 buildings have been damaged by the fires, although no injuries have been recorded.
The forest fire, which started late Thursday, quickly spread to residential areas due to winds reaching 50 km/h during the day.
Thick smoke has nearly covered the entire city, and the sky has turned orange and gray according to images broadcast by Turkish media. Additionally, animal rights activists have evacuated a stray dog shelter.
Turkish news channel NTV reported that strong winds have made it impossible for water-dropping helicopters to operate at night.
As part of the reinforcements, firefighters from several Turkish cities have been sent to the area, and the army and police have also been mobilized.
