US slaps sanctions on Paraguay tobacco company over ties to ex-president

The United States is imposing sanctions on Paraguayan tobacco company Tabacalera del Este, accusing it of giving financial support to ex-President Horacio Cartes, who has been implicated in corrupt activities, U.S. officials said on Tuesday.
