While NATO members have portrayed Russia and China as a threat to Western values, the continuing war in Gaza has been largely ignored at the summit in Washington, DC.
Yosuf Alabarda, analyst and retired Turkish colonel, said Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reminded Western leaders in his speech on Tuesday that their values were being trampled upon in Gaza, too.
“Erdogan clearly said in his speech: What happened to your Western values in Gaza?,” Alabarda told Al Jazeera.
“In the eyes of the whole world, there is a massacre going on in Gaza,” he said, but NATO has largely ignored this, focusing instead on Ukraine.
