“Fairytales can come true, it can happen to you, if you’re young at heart.” Frank Sinatra recorded this tune in 1953 and to this day it pops in my head once in a while. The reason it does is because it has a sweet and innocent message to convey. The way it does is through a dreamy, romantic and old-fashioned melody that takes you back to what now seem like simpler times.
The fact is there is a motto to live by in this song, a lesson to take to heart and run with. Remember how you were at eight years old, ten, twelve even? That version of you should be preserved and brought back to life. You had love in your heart, therefore you were always in a state of sending it out and receiving it. The childlike innocence, the excitement over the tiniest things, the eager anticipation of the endless possibilities lying ahead, they make life worth living.
They give you something to look forward to, increasing your enjoyment of the ride in knowing that something wonderful can happen at any moment. For you have not stopped believing in fairytales. Think about it. Man has had a vivid imagination since the beginning of time. If he didn’t use it and have belief that whatever he can construe with his mind he can bring into fruition through trial and error, we wouldn’t have electricity, running water, cars, fashion, and the list goes on.
“You can go to extremes with impossible schemes, you can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams”. Failure is not such a dreaded monster. You go for it without overthinking. So what if you fall? You laugh at yourself, shake it off, and head out looking for the next adventure. You see, you don’t take yourself so seriously and you’re not so concerned with what everyone else is going to say or think about you.
A childlike playfulness people. Playfulness. It makes you ten times more attractive. It gives you high magnetism with everyone who has the distinct pleasure of coming into contact with you. Being unapologetically, unabashedly who you are, no masks, no pretenses, just as you were when you were a kid, before you were told you had to bury parts of yourself to fit into a certain mold that society or your parents found proper and acceptable.
This song has got the secret sauce to a good, successful and happy life. This song is one of my mottos in life. I am “among the very young at heart”.
