Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met with Italy’s newly appointed ambassador to Lebanon Fabrizio Marcelli at his office in Bikfaya. The introductory meeting served as an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in Lebanon and the broader region.
During the discussions, both parties emphasized the severe risks posed by the ongoing escalation on the southern front and the potential for the situation to spiral into a war that Lebanon cannot afford.
Gemayel reiterated the Kataeb Party's firm stance to Ambassador Marcelli, stating, "It is crucial to separate the events in Gaza from Lebanon and to distance our country from regional conflicts. Lebanon must be freed from Hezbollah’s dominance to regain its sovereignty and institutions. Electing a president who enjoys the trust of all Lebanese parties, one who can unify the country and guide it towards recovery and the restoration of its relationships with friendly nations, is essential."
Gemayel also expressed appreciation for Italy’s contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon, underscoring the "necessity for the Lebanese army and legitimate forces to take charge of security and border protection, responding to any aggression based on relevant international resolutions, particularly 1559 and 1701."
