Mikati meets with Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez, British Minister for Middle East Affairs

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati held a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center in the Dead Sea, Jordan.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, Environment Minister Nasser Yassin, Lebanon's Ambassador to Jordan Youssef Emil Raji, and Prime Minister's advisor Ziad Mikati. Representing Spain were Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and Sánchez's accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Mikati expressed his gratitude to his Spanish counterpart for Spain's continuous support for Lebanon, particularly through its active participation in the UNIFIL forces. He also congratulated Sánchez on Spain's official recognition of the State of Palestine following its vote at the United Nations for full membership.
Prime Minister Sánchez reiterated Spain's support for Lebanon in addressing the Syrian refugee crisis and its repercussions, promising to convey Lebanon's situation and stance to the European Union.
In response to a request from Environment Minister Yassin, Sánchez expressed Spain's readiness to share expertise with Lebanon in establishing environmental police, protecting forests and reserves, and transferring Spain's experience in these areas. It was agreed that this cooperation would be pursued through the embassies of both countries.
Additionally, PM Mikati met with British Minister of State for the Middle East, Lord Ahmad, to discuss further cooperation.
