Kuwaiti Interior Ministry elements foiled a massive plot by Hezbollah to destabilize national security, intercepting large amounts of imported weapons, ammunition, explosives from Iraq.
A security source had told al-Anba newspaper that authorities have been able to deter a terror plan executed by suspected Hezbollah affiliates.
“The detained suspects had been storing weapons received in increments in anticipation of orders from foreign sources,” the daily quoted the source as saying.
After a series of raids in multiple locations surrounding the smuggling hub, including a ranch in al-Abdali town on Iraqi-Kuwaiti borders, security forces were able to confiscate massive amounts of explosives, ammunitions and weapons.
18 Kuwaiti nationals, suspected of belonging to Hezbollah, have been reportedly detained and are now held in custody as investigations await completion.
According to said source, the case is being treated seriously by the top Interior Ministry officers, and has been conditioned to total media blackout until all perpetrators are identlified.
The confiscated weapon cache included 200 grams of C4 explosives, hand grenades, and ammunition.
Among the arrested are the owners of the ranch, and others picked up in al-Abdali, Abdullah Mubarak and Ramithia towns.
