Minister of Information, Jamal Jarrah, on Tuesday welcomed at his ministerial office a delegation representing the Council of Authors and Composers in Lebanon, headed by renowned Lebanese artist, Osama Rahbani.
After listening to the demands of his visiting delegation, Jarrah said, "We hope to appoint a board of directors for Tele Liban soon in a bid to follow a clearer and better administrative course, and to cement the relationship between the Ministry of Information and Tele Liban."
He pledged to grant his visiting delegation its "accumulated rights" from Tele Liban, Radio Lebanon, and other Lebanese broadcast stations "within all the available resources."
However, the Minister requested utmost productivity in return to bolster the message of the country's national television "Tele Liban" away from sectarianism and confessionalism.
"We want this TV to remain the national line to boost the spirit of citizenship and belonging to Lebanon. We want to steer clear from sectarianism because it has ruined the country and caused wars. We have to focus on the spirit of citizenship and belonging, as well as on the positive and beautiful things in our country," the Minister said.
"The most important message of Tele Liban is to promote citizenship and civil peace and to take care of young people and their ideas and productivity in order to motivate educated youth to stay in the country," he added.
Jarrah concluded by sounding the alarm on the growing burden of unemployment in the country, noting that the state could not provide jobs for approximately 30,000 graduates per year.
"We have to create jobs outside the public sector," he added.
