Member of the "Strong Lebanon" Parliamentary Bloc, MP Salim Aoun, ruled out Saturday any possibility of activating the caretaker government, stressing that "this is not an option, but rather the prelude to a notion that was presented regarding a single subject limited to the annual budget, based on the year 1969's jurisprudence."
Speaking in an interview, Aoun said, "The Bloc did not declare any position on the subject yet, because the first concerned in this issue is mainly Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, who is the one to call for a cabinet session in agreement with the President."
"Hariri has not yet responded to this proposal," he added.
Commenting on a recent statement by MP Faisal Karameh, Aoun indicated that "the obstacle is not back to square one...The Consultative Gathering has declared that no communication should be addressed to it since both President Aoun and PM-designate Hariri are the ones concerned with the cabinet formation...and when they reach a formula for the obstacle at hand, they can propose it to the Gathering."
"The Consultative Gathering is not the one to form the government. The problem lies in the Sunni representation, and the first concerned in this case is also the Prime Minister because he represents the largest segment of this community," Aoun went on.
He concluded by stating that his Bloc's role is merely to assist, saying, "We are dealing with the issue and trying to seek solutions for two reasons, namely due to our relations with all sides and because we are the principle team supporting the President of the Republic, who is responsible along with the Prime Minister-designate to form the government, in accordance with the Constitution."
