Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk said that "social networking sites play a major role in the upcoming elections. (...) As of April, social media campaigns are expected to intensify."
"These elections are neither ordinary nor easy, because the law represents a test for every vote. As a former journalist and editor, I am well aware of the influence of the media. This influence has evolved from newspapers to TV and then to social media platforms," he said during a meeting with more than 100 activists on social networking sites and members of the "Blue Force" movement.
He addressed the audience as "the vanguard of this electoral battle which requires more effort than ever before."
The Minister stressed that "all the regions will be witnessing electoral battles, however, the biggest battle remains in Beirut (...) because he who grasps hold of the capital’s decisions, grabs hold of the country's decisions overall."
