Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Beirut and its Suburbs, Elias Audi, led the Easter Mass at St. George's Cathedral in Martyrs' Square.
Archbishop Audi declared, "Our country needs officials who work for it, not for their own interests, and the primary duty of the deputies is to meet during the constitutional deadline to elect a president who leads the country with honesty and wisdom."
He said, "Archbishop Audi: It seems that some have become comfortable with the void, and our country will not rise unless its constitutional institutions function properly and a president is elected without disputes and obstruction."
He continued, "It is shameful that the Lebanese feel that their deputies are powerless, waiting for foreign aid, with nothing in their pockets or in their minds."
He pointed out that "Lebanon cannot engage in negotiations without a president of the republic and an effective government."
