The bloc’s top diplomat has urged both sides to listen to the “unheard demands by the international community” and reach a truce deal.
Josep Borell also called for the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2728 “fully and immediately”.
The resolution adopted in March demands an immediate ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of captives and “the urgent need to expand the flow” of aid into Gaza.
“A ceasefire is urgent, to get to the liberation of the hostages and bring relief to those starving,” the EU’s foreign policy chief wrote on X.
“Israel still has an overall obligation to grant full, safe, rapid and unhindered access to humanitarian aid at scale for those in need,” Borell said.
He added the European Union unequivocally condemns the rocket attack near the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing that killed three Israeli soldiers and wounded 11 others on Sunday.
