Political sources revealed to Saudi al-Watan newspaper that Iran voiced willingness to give-up on Syrian President Bashar Assad on two conditions: First, it gets to keep the privileges established in Syria over the past decades including land, buildings and facilities purchased by its government.
The second condition calls for all deals and treaties signed with the Assad regime to be maintained even after his departure.
The sources noted that Iran's signal during this phase is an attempt to save face after it came to the realization that the Syrian people will not back away from freedom demands, adding that the terms placed by Iran are sign of its deep-rooted ties with the Syrian regime given its attachment to the assets it owns inside the war-ravaged state.
Former President of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces Hadi al-Bahra revealed that Iran has shown no desire to change its policy towards Syria, adding that if the rumors are true, the Syrian people will not welcome such massive Iranian presence in the country.
"The people won't be able to forgive Tehran for the crimes it committed against them as it has been backing the regime with arms, money and fighters," al-Bahra concluded.
