Member of the Tajadod Bloc, MP Fouad Makhzoumi issued the following statement:
"It was an honor to receive the support of opposition MPs and several independent MPs for my candidacy to assume the responsibility of the premiership, to share with His Excellency the President of the Republic the duty of rescuing the country during this critical phase in Lebanon's history, making me the strongest contender against the establishment’s candidate.
However, based on my conviction that having multiple opposition candidates will inevitably lead to the loss of everyone,
and that Lebanon urgently requires a fundamental change in the governance approach, alongside a government that aligns with the sovereignty and reform aspirations of the new term and contributes to implementing the oath of office, which necessitates the broadest possible coalition,
I announce my withdrawal from the race for the premiership to pave the way for consensus among all those who believe in the need for change around the name of Judge Nawaf Salam. I extend my gratitude to my colleagues and political forces who granted me their support and trust."
