Geagea: Hezbollah and Islamic State two sides of the same coin

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said Sunday that Hezbollah and Islamic State are two sides of the same coin which is the political Islam, their existence is feeding one another even if they are fighting each other.

In an interview with al-Arab newspaper, Geagea reiterated his call for Hezbollah to withdraw from Syria immediately in order to avoid further woes in Lebanon.

"Eradicating terrorism and political Islam can be accomplished through eliminating extremist movements embodied by Qaeda, Nusra Front in addition to Islamic State and Muslim Brotherhood," he added.

The presidential candidate affirmed that only Lebanese army is capable to combat terrorism mainly following the battles which took place between the army and the extremist Sunni groups, recalling that terrorism jolted Lebanon since the end of Syrian tutelage after the attempt of assassination MP Marwan Hamadeh until the killing of later PM Rafic Hariri.

Furthermore, the Maronite leader stated that Iran is hindering his reaching to presidency because of its power in the region; however he noted that this power is starting to recede along with the weakening of Syrian regime.

"Iran is the biggest example of political Islam, it influenced the parties to adopt Islam in politics since its movements and authorities prompted the region to be radicalized and extremist which explains the emergence of Islamic State and other terrorist groups," Geagea concluded.
